We went from hot weather to even hotter weather after arriving in Dallas. John was at the airport to pick us up. Since it was lunch time he took us to a little BBQ place near his house called Dickey’s. We were the first ones in the restaurant. It’s like cafeteria style eating. Carol tried the turkey BBQ sandwich and Sarah had BBQ sausage.

After lunch John took us to the West End Historic District. We walked along the street, went into some shops. Carol got peanut butter fudge and shared with everyone. We then went to the area where President Kennedy was assassinated. A man was there showing graphic photographs of the shooting and questioning the fact that only one person did it. According to his theory, several shots were fired from different locations. He had those locations mapped out. Made sense to me. X marks the spot, literally, on the street where the car was when JFK was shot.

Later we went to the top of Reunion tower and had a couple of drinks in the rotating bar/restaurant. It rotates slowly and even has N, S, E, W marked on the windows so you know what direction you’re looking at. After a full day in Dallas we went to John’s and swam in his new in-ground pool. It was very refreshing. A couple of John’s friends joined us and before you knew it we had a small party going. Didn’t last very long because our stomachs was telling us it was time to eat. We went to Carol’s favorite place – The Black-Eyed Pea. They have the BEST chicken fried chicken dinner hands down (according to Carol). Sarah ordered it too but she didn’t rant and rave about it.

We went out dancing afterwards. Ran into a friend of Carol’s and a few friends of John’s. We were glad to get to bed that evening. It was a long day.

On Sunday we went to a local restaurant that is a favorite of John's for breakfast. It was noisy but the food was great. After breakfast we went to the Botanical Gardens. I guess we walked around there for 2 or 3 hours. A beautiful place. We saw lizards, beautiful fountains, and cowboy boots made of floral (pictured on this page). We left there and went to the Dallas World Aquarium and Zoological Garden. When you walk in the first thing you enter into is a tropical rainforest. There were several species of birds flying around free so mind your head if you go. They had alligators, lizards, frogs….all kinds of animals. When you leave the rainforest you enter the aquarium. Not as big as some aquariums, but it was still interesting.
We left the aquarium and drove to Las Colinas where the Mustang Monument stands. These are wild mustangs poised in a fountain which looks like they are actually running through it. The picture explains it better than I. Later we went shopping and stopped at a bar for a drink and to cool off. Then it was back to John’s house to get ready for dinner. Darren, John’s neighbor, joined us. We went to a wonderful Italian restaurant called Marco’s. Darren picked the wine and made an excellent choice. Our dinner was delightful.

When we got back to John’s house it was late and we had an early flight to catch. Carol opened the bedroom door and turned on the light and Sarah screamed. A HUGE flying bug flew across the room and landed on the wall. Darren was kind enough to exterminate it. Turned out to be a flying cockroach. Yuck. Glad we don’t have those at home. The next morning we said good-bye to John and made our journey home.
