Cumberland Falls, KY

Home Adventures 2 Adventures 3 Travel 2005 Travel 2006

October 11 & 12, 2003, Chris, Sarah & I spent the weekend enjoying the fall colors down south. We booked a cabin at the last minute. They had one left. How lucky is that?

One of the reasons we went to the Falls was to see the only Moonbow in the US. In fact, there are only two places in the world that this phenomenon occurs - at the Falls and at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Africa. The moonbow only appears during a full moon on a clear night. It was a bit cloudy the night we were there, but the moon peeked out from the clouds and gave us a beautiful moonbow to look at. It peeked in and out several times. It was pretty cool.

This is the path along the river below the falls. Very rocky.

These stairs were practically vertical.

Along a hiking trail near our cabin

I can't remember the name of this type of salamander, but it's something like Stink.

We saw this snake in the creek at the Barthell stop

Chris saw this turtle on the side of the road and decided to save it. Sarah held it until we arrived at the Devils Jump Overlook - about 3 miles with the turtle moving its legs like its swimming.

Big South Fork

We saw this copperhead snake on the trail at Devils Jump Overlook. Blends in nicely with the leaves.
